There have been many influences on our film from films of different genres. One of the most notable influences seen in our film is the use of scenes shot in black and white coming from the film American History X. We demonstrated a clear pastiche to this film when using this effect to represent the past in our film.
Another influence on The Forgotten Truth was the film Shutter Island. We took inspiration from this films storyline, they are very similar in that they are both set in mental asylums, both the main characters murdered their wives and are certified insane, but ours differs in that Damian takes his own life at the end, and ours is set in the present day. We also took influences from this through the use of grey, gloomy lighting. This use of drab colour is a good technique to use and we used this in the scenes where Damian is chasing the visions of Lily.
