The sounds heard in Thriller films are designed to keep the audience on edge, with slow paced, gradually building sounds. Thriller sounds also contain 'boom', 'bang' or shouting sounds in conjunction with shocking images to provide a 'jumping' or 'shocking' effect.
Here from this extract from 'The conjuring we see this technique employed, with the sound becoming extremely loud when the demon jumps out from the top of the wardrobe.
Another example of this is seen in this extract from Shutter Island when Teddy is searching for Laeddis.
I think this technique could be used in our film when Damian is seen killing his wife Lily for added effect on the audience during the scene. This would enhance the brutality of the images on screen and add to the shock value of the twist at the end.
