Title Sequences

TITLES AND CREDITS

Title sequences are used in media products such as films and tv programmes to give the audience not only information about who is in the film eg the cast they also, give away small bits of information about the film.
The film our group is going to produce is going to be a pychological thriller/drama. This is my research about psychological thriller title sequences.

The opening titles for this psychological thriller have no pictures on it. The affect of the titles being in red and flickering across the screen makes me as the audience feel like this film is going to have a storyline that jumps around in time. The blood symbolises deaths within the film but it makes me think that they will be brutal kills..

In the opening credits of Sweeney Todd the screen is very dark to show the depth the audience will go into the storyline. It is also animated and even though we cant make animated credits the way that the blood has been made brighter to show that it is the main iconography in the film could be an idea we use in our film.

Shutter Islands title sequence would be a good idea to develope and make in a similar way for our own film. To start with the text is red and in capitals and flickers. This gives me the impression that at that location the storyline is distorted and the image of the stair case moving just renforces this idea. From the camera angles and shots used it looks like the audience are entering a building and the images slow down and the writting turns white but it has stopped flicking. The improtant names in the film (the cast) dont flicker to imform the audience who is in th film. This idea of having flickering writting that changes colour would work well with our storyline as the images in Damians head are distorted and fastly developing into thee knowlegde of the turth.

Psycho is a very old film and the visual effects on the title sequence arent up to the modren starndards of todays technology. however i really like the way that the lines go in and out in different directions revealing more of the titles thenselves.
I think that using a visual effect like this one could really emphysis that Damian doesnt remember killing his wife and he needs the rest of the picture/text to figure it out.

Even though this A2 media film is not of the sae genre as our film will be i really like the freeze frames in the title sequence when the actors names appear. This idea could be adapted and used in our film as having freeze frame titles would help to tell the audience  more about the two main characters.
