Editing 'The forgotten Truth'

The editing process of our film was quite difficult as we had lots of different. We also had a lot of footage to import in and edit which took a lot of time. We wanted a lot of different shots in the film to make it look more interesting. We had to re-shoot some footage for 2 scenes as we though we didn't have enough variety of shots and that it looked a bit boring. We decided to add more close-ups to the scenes. For this we then had to make sure that all of the costumes and props were the same so that it all looked continuous.

For one shot in the park scene we also had to re-shoot as we realised when editing that we had broken to 180 degree rule which would make the scene not look right so we then made sure that we stuck to the rule when re-shooting.

It was difficult to add our sound effects to the fight scene as we had to chop up each individual sound effect so that we just had the sound that we wanted, and then we had to place them in the exact positions where the hits were happening so that it would look realistic and would flow with the scene. This also proved difficult as if we moved a different scene before  the fight scene we then had to make sure that all the audio still matched up with the fottage.

To input the footage into Final Cut Express from our Sony HD100 we had to use the log and transfer option and set the camera to the parts we were wanting to put into Final Cut. For the fight scene we then used the Panasonic HDC HS80 camera which we had to import in from the cameras file instead of logging and transfering. We used the different camera as it was more portable and would be easier to use for what we wanted to do in the scene.

For the title of the film we wanted it to flicker on and off of the screen so that it would create more of an effect to the audience and would look more sinister so that it would match the context of our film. We got this idea from the AS film that I did as we thought that it worked well with the films genre. To make the text flicker we had to create the shot and reduce the length of it to make it really short. We then copied and pasted a lot of the same shot and separated them so that it would create a flicker effect. We then added fades to the beginning and end of it so that if would flow in and out of it.
We then created images in Photoshop to input into our film. I created a film company logo for our film so that we could insert it in the beginning of our film and add onto the film poster. I then also created a photo of Damian and Lily being happy together on a patterned background for the credit sequence. I did this as I though that it would created sympathy towards the two characters, as there used to be a time where everything was ok before Damian turned mentally ill.
To make the film look continuous we added fades/ dissolves on between cuts to show that there was either a change in setting or in time. We also used audio fades so that the sound wouldn't "pop & click" and would flow between each scene.

Problems during editing:
Whilst editing our film we encountered an issue where we lost our work. To resolve the problem we had to go through the computers auto saving files and try to recover our work from that. We managed to save the majority of it but had to import some other things that it had lost.
